Case Study, Walla Walla Public Schools
Transforming digital communication and securing critical funding for district-wide programs.
The Challenge
Before our collaboration, Walla Walla Public Schools faced a common but critical issue: no clear social media strategy. Their communications director—already stretched thin managing district-wide responsibilities—struggled to post consistently and efficiently. Reels were incorrectly formatted, their content lacked cohesion, and their messaging often missed the opportunity to connect with the community or further the district’s goals. In an era where schools are scrutinized and community trust is vital, this gap posed a serious risk.
The Solution
Over the course of two years, Sarah provided weekly coaching and consulting sessions designed to simplify, modernize, and humanize the district’s communication strategy. Together, we built a repeatable system that:
Introduced efficient workflows so content could be created and posted in real time rather than delayed or lost.
Trained staff in simple video editing and on-the-fly content creation directly from their phones.
Improved visual branding and consistency across platforms.
Expanded their use of Reels, interviews, and storytelling that featured students, teachers, staff and parents—turning the district’s presence into something relatable and human.
The communications director himself went from feeling out of touch to confidently leading content creation and interviews. This growth allowed him not only to meet the district’s professional standards but to exceed them, with storytelling that resonated deeply with the community.
The Levy Campaign: A Turning Point
When it came time to promote a high-stakes levy measure, we built a campaign rooted in surprise, pride, and authenticity:
Highlighting “hidden truths,” such as the fact that school counselors and advanced placement programs aren’t covered by state funding.
Sharing emotional, memorable stories—like student athletes having to change in Porta Potties at a century-old stadium.
Leaning into local pride by contrasting Walla Walla’s outdated facilities with those of neighboring districts, sparking emotional responses among the residents.
Recruiting parents and local residents as messengers which ensured the campaign reflected real voices instead of a faceless institution.
This approach generated high engagement, even from critics. Negative comments were strategically managed to showcase transparency, which boosted the algorithm while reinforcing the district’s professionalism.
The Results
While many factors contributed to the outcome, the levy passed—a monumental win for the district. Levy funding now supports essential programs such as art, advanced placement, and school counseling. Most visibly, the district secured funding for a new football stadium, finally giving students safe, dignified locker rooms instead of Porta Potties. The passage of this Levy represents a much larger impact, funding that touches nearly every student, classroom and program in the district.
Beyond the levy, the district now operates with clarity, efficiency, and confidence in their communications. Social media is no longer an afterthought but a trusted bridge between schools and the wider community.
The Impact
The communications director grew from hesitant to confident, becoming a visible, trusted storyteller.
The community saw themselves reflected in the district’s content, strengthening trust and support.
The levy success secured resources that directly improve the daily lives of students.
