I’m creating content as I walk down the jet bridge to board a plane.
When you’re a good storyteller who nerds out about systems and workflows.
I'm so glad I learned to notice my ideas and turn them into fuel for my content engine. Now I’m never at a loss for what to post. I don’t stare at blank pages willing inspiration to come. I capture my authentic ideas in my voice, I use AI to reformat to different platforms, and a scheduling tool to get the message out to the world.
I was about to board my plane from Las Vegas to Seattle when a golden nugget of an idea popped into my head. I knew it was an idea worth sharing.
I’m the type of woman who has multiple tabs open in my brain all at once: schedule windshield repair, go to the bank, take my daughter to appointments, plan dinner, etc.
So I know when a nugget drops into my brain, I need to capture it before it vanishes.
It used to be that I’d have these epic ideas all over the place, post it notes, a notebook, Google Drive, notes app, but now I have all my ideas in ONE place. They live in the Content Machine on my Google Drive.
If each idea is a honeybee, the Content Machine is the hive, and I’m the queen, obviously.
I’ll tell you exactly how one random thought becomes a carousel post, a talking reel, a short reel, google post, linkedin post, a blog and an email newsletter.
It took me a while to get here, though.
Some of this approach came from Dr. Gay Hendricks book, The Big Leap, where he talks about finding our Zone of Genius and reorganizing our life so we spend more time there and we outsource things in our Zone of Competency. I’ve studied a lot about productivity over the years but a concept in this book really stayed with me. The concept of Einstein Time. When we’re locked in on a task we love, in the zone, we can unlock hyperfocus. When it seems like hardly any time has passed but somehow we’ve accomplished so much and also forgotten to eat lunch, that’s Einstein Time.
Some of this approach came from learning Human Design and recognizing that I do not have a constant supply of energy. (Believe it or not, some people really do…they’re like a freight train just chugging through their to-do lists.) I work best in cycles and I work best when I make the most of my brain’s different modes. Sometimes I’m more creative, sometimes I’m more analytical and forcing myself to be analytical when I’m creative isn’t doing me any favors.
Human Design helped me realize (as a Projector) that I can hit hyperfocus when I take more breaks. It’s very counter intuitive, more breaks = better output. However, it’s a theory I’ve been testing since I learned about Human Design in 2024.
I used to prioritize maximum efficiency but now I protect the hyperfocus!
Once I have the message reformatted, I put them all back into the Content Machine Doc. Each idea is a different tab. At the top of the page, I have a table that documents when I posted each format. I want to rotate my ideas. Yesterday’s carousel is today’s blog post and email newsletter and LinkedIn Post, but I can revisit this idea to make some shorter reels, in the future.
I had my idea walking down the jet bridge. I typed out my draft before we hit our cruising altitude. I finalized the carousel when I had wi-fi on my layover. I made the carousel yesterday and today I’m sharing this long-form blog post and newsletter. (P.S. If you’d like to get free guides to build your social media strategy and weekly inspiration from me, you can sign up for the free newsletter here.)
I’m not going to lie and tell you that all this only took 10 minutes. It’s a lot faster with the help of AI and with the system I’ve already built, but getting this idea into all these formats while keeping my voice has taken over an hour. Somewhere along the way, we were told that “being on our phone” or being on social media was a waste of time. Like it wasn’t really work or it was something we should hurry through as fast as possible.
Our social media is our personal brand, it’s our living, breathing portfolio. It’s ok to spend time on it. It will bring you clients, opportunities and inspiration for the rest of your life.
This system is so much more than a productivity hack. It’s an invitation to explore your own mind and how you work best.
Notice when you have more energy.
See when you can batch similar tasks.
If something doesn’t feel right, adjust it til it DOES feel right.
And have fun.
If posting is just another thing you tell yourself you have to do, you’ll resent it. But if you can have fun with it and if you’re committed to your why, the larger reason you’re growing your personal brand, the habit will stick.
In our industrial culture, we’re pretty much taught just one way of doing things. We hustle, we strive and we get as much done as we possibly can, every day.
About 20% of the population is actually designed to work that way.
My approach to social media has softened over the years. I first learned from the marketing bros. I was taught to overcome sales objections, to maximize traffic, to use punchy text-hooks. And none of that got me far.
I had to learn to find my voice, not copy someone else’s system.
The former requires reflection, adjustment, accountabilty and encouragment. Not just copy and paste strategies or burning out because I’m just trying to be discipled.
I want to help you uncover your unique voice, design habits for your specific brain, and hold you accountable to the micro-adjustments we make along the way. If you want to copy my systems, you can. And if you want to design goals and a workflow that works just for you, we can do that, too.
I’m just here to be the wind beneath your wings and remind you that your ideas actually are great, they are worth sharing.
